Cumnock Movie Club - "Dress Circle" Magazine:

The title of thrs magazine, ··Dress Circle"'. is a reminder of the days long ago when most cinemas had Front and Back
Stalls downstairs and Dress Circle, Lounge and sometimes The Gods upstairs. This publication, through feature articles.
will relive the experience of those great and not-so-great old picture houses and the golden age of the cinema.

Featured in the first issue of the magazine (August 1999) are two ar1icles, the first about one of NSW's great country
movie houses- The Amusu Theatre at Manildra. and the second article about ScreenSound Australia (formerly known as
the National Film And Sound Archive).

CATHS has a magazine exchange with the Cumnock Movie Club and the editor of Dress Circle has kindly written in
             issue 4 about CATHS-Vas follows

"Anyone interested in the history of cinema and theatre in Victoria would find membership of this organi
sation a must. Reading through various issues of CinemaRecord. with photos and text of cinemas in their
heyday. brings back memories of some of the grand old cinemas.

Ar1icles in the CATHS magazine are well documented. Tn the November 1999 issue on page LO was an
article 'The Recollections of a War-Time Lolly Boy' . Those were the days of chocolate and ice cream
displays in adjacent milk bar windows. The Mastercraft chocolates were dummies filled with corTugated
cardboru·d. and the Peters Ice Cream tubs were empty. With the crepe paper streamers and curtains, these
displays were a mouthwatering display to young kids with their thruppeoce to spend at interval.

So there is a wealth of information in CinemaRecord, and it is well worth the $30 membership lO join this
                         professional but friendly organisation··
