             Disney:  The largest collection of Disney animation  rut shown in Australia will soon  be on  exhibition  at the Silver K
             GaHery,  High Street, A1madale. Titled The Art of Walt Disney, the exhibition  will feature eels  from  many of Disney's
             classic animated features. The exhibition will run from June 3 to July 4. Veteran Disney animator Paul Carlson will make
             appearances on June 3 and 4 between .I and 4pm.

             Moonee Ponds: The Clock Tower Theatre, Moonee Ponds, has been re-developed as a live theatre/communjty centre.

             Moe: Films were screened at the Moe racecourse under the banner "Movies On The Run" during the summer months.

             Rushworth: The Shire HaJJ  has been re-opened as a community cinema and  has been operated by a  16 year old young
             man since January 2000. (see fotthcoming interview)

             Windsor: The Empire Entertainment complex, the ex Hoyts Windsor. is  up for auction.

             Footscr ay: The Barkly Theatre. despite being registered by the National Trust, is  planned as 30 apartments.

             North Melbourne: '"The Sentimental Bloke"' was shown at "The Central Picture Theau·e" aL44 En-ol Street on Sunday
             19th of March. 2000. The Hotham History Project showed the film after their AGM, saying in  their flyer that "Although
             the building has been renovated, the old theatre is still intact and will be a walk down memory lane for many older North
             and West Melbourne residents who remember the Saturday matinees of Tarzan and Hopalong Cassidy".

             New Pinewood Theatrettes Opening:  On Saturday 20th May. the Waverley Pinewood Cinema's two new Theatrettes
             opened. The tbeatrettes are located in the space upstairs which formerly housed a restaurant. Waverley Cinema reports:
             "We have adapted the unique 'theatrette' concept from major studios in Hollywood where exclusive screening rooms are
             used by producers, directors and studio executives to view films before they are released to the masses. ''Each theatrette
             has  50 comfortable seats.  plenty  of legroom,  Dolby  Digital Sound and  tiered/stadium  seating  to  give every  row an
             excellent view of a large and impressive screen.  Total screens now fom.

             The Waverley Cinema was established and has been operated by the Jean family since 1974. Originally a 300 seat single-
             screen cinema, the auditorium has since been twinned with the second cinema commencing operation on  7 April  1999.
             Both of these cinemas are equipped with Dolby Digital sound. Cinema One has  187 seats and Cinema Two has 68 seats.

             Village Rivoli Re-opens:  After 12  months of construction work, on Thursday May 4th Village re-opened their Rivoli
             Cinemas as an eight screen multiplex. Village have spent over $16 Million refurbishing the Rivoli. enhancing its art deco
             architecture, and adding six screens to the complex. Cinema 2 (the downstairs auditorium of the previous twin) opened
             two weeks after the other cinemas as  it was used as site facilities for workers during the redevelopment.

             The 'Grand Premiere Opening' of the Rivoli was on Wednesday evening. 17th May with a screening of East Is East. The
             CATHS website will  soon have a special feature on the Rivoli with  photographs and information on the cinema.
             Reading Waurn Ponds  Open: On March 30th Reading Cinemas Australia opened their  8 screen multiplex at Waurn
             Ponds, west of Geelong. We"ll  be posting some photos and information about the complex soon on the CATHS website.

             Village Dandenong Upgrade: One of Village Cinemas' first generation multiplexes, Dandenong 10. is currently under-
             going refurbishment. Bigger screens, new cru.·pets, new seating and other improvements are taking place. Larger xenon
             lamps are being installed in projectors for the largest screens. One cinema at a time  is being upgraded. Cinema  10  has
             already been completed.

             Maryborough Ci11ema:  The Paramount at Maryborough (Victoria) will  be adding a third screen. The new auditorium
             will have about 300 seats and they are thinking of reinstating the stage for small touring companies, local ballet groups
             and local amateur companies. Thanks to Jon  Medlin of the Paramount for this report.
             VilJage Southland:  The new Village Southland  16 Megaplex is celebrated its first birthday on Saturday May 6th.

             Former New Ascot Theatre (c.l924), now Tivoli  Receptions, 199-203 Union Road. Ascot Vale,  wilJ  be auctioned on
             T hursday, 22nd June at  l.OOpm.

             Leongatha: Rumours of a proposed triple cinema, to be leased to Classic Cinema Elsternwick/Readings
             Carlton Moviehouse: The Royal Women's Hospital, owners of the Carlton Theatre (1924) have put the building up
