Plaudits for

Westgarth.

The re-opening of the Westgarth
on Thursday 17 August was
Melbourne’s big entertainment news.
Praise was universal for an imaginative
transition. An enlarged foyer in cream
and brown tonings, and the beauty of
the original marble staircase sets the
scene. The plan to excise the balcony
from the main auditorium to create two
cinemas created some apprehension,
but it works; a smaller main auditorium
enhances the proscenium setting.

A Closing Last shows and Last Tickets

Village Twin,

Doncaster.

The Village Twin at Doncaster
Shopping Town closed after the 4 pm.
session on Wednesday 26 July. The
cinemas will be demolished.
The equipment has been
redistributed: projectors to Jam
Factory South Yarra; sound system to
Waverley Gardens; slide machine to
Geelong Cinemas; back-up generator
to Southland Cinemas and the seats to
Shepparton Cinemas.
