             Armadale         Sothebys, the former Armadale is up for sale
             Camberwell       Rivoli to be a six-plex
             Carlton          Nova now has 4 screens
             Carlton          Owner of Carlton Moviehouse, Carlton's first cinema, has purchased the Genevieve,
                              Carlton's first restaurant, which is next door to the cinema
             Cheltenham       Southland plans, shown to the public recently, show a Village cinema with 20 screens,
                              with an opening date of Christmas 1997
             Cob ram          Melba about to re-open
             Doncaster        Westfield Shoppingtown proposing 30 cinemas
             Elwood           Broadway to be converted to apartments
             Footscray        LaScala still intact operating as a reception room
             Hepburn Springs  Palais advertised for sale
             Maryborough      Paramount re-opened as a single screen - upstairs only
             Melbourne        Capitol is currently closed
             Morwell          Village Twin Cinema closed 4/12/96. Mid-Valley Village 8, opened 12/12/96.
             Richmond         Cinema Richmond (BBQ's Galore) is being remodelled. Proscenium to be demolished in
                              early 1997, so if you have not seen it hurry along.
             Sale             Third screen opened in October
             Sorrento         Two extra cinemas being built
             Swan Hill        Regent to be twinned and reopened
             Warragul         Proposed now as a triplex
             Hoyts            Expanding into Latin America with a 35% stake in Mexico's Cinemex who have 65 screens
                              in Mexico City & is scheduled to open a further 92 screens around Mexico City next year.
                              Projected total of 350 by the year 2000. Hoyts is working on a number of projects, with
                              more than 1500 new screens under development, 88 in the U.S.
             Village          Currently in Australia, N.Z., Singapore and Thailand, has announced plans to build 2600
                              screens in 15 countries ny the year 2000. It also has agreed to buy 50% of Warner Brothers
                              cinemas in Britain & Germany, & has formed a production company with Dustin Hoffman.

                        Main attraction: "That Night In Rio", starring Alice Faye, Don Ameche & Carmen Miranda, etc.
                        Bookings really are necessary.  Ring Wally Perkins on 9592-3166 at work, 9 to 5 on weekdays.

             February   Fourth Sunday as usual. First regular meeting for 1997 -A surprise guest speaker.

             March      Trip to Sorrento to inspect the extra two Athenaeum cinemas & also the two new theatrettes of our
                        CATHS-V members, namely the Frankston "Crest" & the Rye "Barkly".

             April      Regularr  meeting & Graham Smythe's super 8 film.
