Currently the cinema is going
          exceptionally well, with fortnightly
          screenings and average audience
numbers of around 100. The locals are
very pleased with the low admission
          prices, compared to the theatre
          complexes in Albury and Wangaratta.
In the past three years, I have also
          assisted with screenings at the
          Myrtleford Cinema and with a
number of outdoor movies, including a
vineyard, in the summer months. The
movie business is basically a hobby,
which I thoroughly enjoy, together with
part-time work at a local primary
          school. ★

Clockwise from top: The Memorial Hall,
home to the cinema, is typical of public
halls in the smaller towns of the north-
          east.
The interior is plain but functional. The
curtained arches lead to the kitchen and
          supper room.
