The council sold the National and
purchased the Princess for a mere
$71,000 re-opening it as a live-theatre
venue in November 1970.
Under lease from the council, the
local live-theatre company Theatre North
took over management of the Princess in
1998 and continues to operate it as the
city’s prestige theatre venue.
Theatre North has a year of
