       Building actually began in February 1950 but
       progressed slowly with completion of the
       YHVWLEXOH VKHOO DQG RYHUKHDG RI¿FHV LQ      DQG
       ¿QDOO\ WKH ZKROH FRPSOH[ LQ 'HFHPEHU

       Screenings commenced in the new  Regent
       Theatre  RQ  'HFHPEHU      EXW  DQ  RI¿FLDO
       opening promised for three weeks hence did
       not eventuate. However, the cinema began a
       SHULRG RI SURYLGLQJ ORFDO ¿OP JRHUV ZLWK YHU\
       progressive presentation and programming
       – wide-screen newsreels, sneak midnight
       previews, daily matinees, Sunday sessions,
       and upgraded projection and sound systems
       including 70mm and Dolby Stereo sound.
